The ten most Frequently Asked Questions about the polarjet Equipment

1. WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF POLARJET DEVICES?

polarjet devices are robust and suitable for everyday use. Operating fully pneumatic and without electricity, polarjet devices are compact, lightweight and easy to handle.

2. WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES AMONG THE VARIOUS POLARJET DEVICES?

The devices differ in air and pellet consumption. Basically, the cleaning or removal rate is proportional to the air and pellet consumption. Rule of thumb: The polarjet devices 1600 and 2000 are used to remove dirt that can be scraped off with your fingernail. The polarjet 6000 is suitable for dirt that can be scraped off using the spatula. The performance of the polarjet devices 1600 plus and 4000 lies inbetween.

3. WHY DO POLARJET DEVICES HAVE SMALLER PELLET TANKS COMPARED TO ITS COMPETITORS?

All polarjet devices are equipped with pellet tanks that are extremely well insulated resulting in a reduced loss of dry ice due to sublimation. Furthermore, it has been shown that tanks that are too large and poorly insulated result in clumping of the dry ice pellets jeopardizing the operational safety.

4. HOW MUCH PRESSURE IS REQUIRED TO OPERATE THE POLARJET EQUIPMENT?

Basically, any polarjet device requires an average pressure of 4 - 10 bar. Crucial however is not the pressure but the air volume and the air quality made available by the compressor. For further details, please check the data sheets or refer to Question 10.

5. WHAT IS DRY ICE?

The term dry ice stands for frozen carbon dioxide (CO2) which is expanded from a pressurized liquid tank. Liquid CO2 freezes and a snow type substance is formed. For dry ice blasting, the snow is pressed through a die under high pressure producing pellets. Dry ice, however, does not liquefy but sublimates, i.e. dry ice transforms from solid into gaseous state.

6. HOW TO ORDER DRY ICE?

You reach us by phone at +41 71 913 36 45 or via the Internet at www.trockeneisexpress.ch or www.trockeneisexpress.de. Order today, delivery tomorrow – it's as easy as that!

7. IS DRY ICE CLEANING DANGEROUS?

No, it isn’t. CO2 is not toxic. However, the following safety measures must be complied with:

  • Personal protective equipment (goggles, hearing protection and gloves) must be worn.
  • In case of dust formation a suction device should be in place and/or a dust mask should be used.
  • Avoid direct skin contact with CO2 pellets.
  • Provide sufficient fresh air for dry ice blasting in an enclosed space.
  • CO2 is heavier than air. Thus, the suction device must be installed on the floor and not at the ceiling.
  • Use the supplied cable to electrically ground the cleaning objects.
8. WHAT'S THE SHELF LIFE OF DRY ICE STORED IN A STYROFOAM BOX?

Calculate a loss of 10% per day for dry ice stored in well insulated boxes. If the box is stored in a refrigerator, sublimation is reduced by 50%.

9. CAN THE POLARJET EQUIPMENT REMOVE THE UNDERBODY PROTECTION OF VEHICLES?

It depends on the condition of the coating. To efficiently remove underbody protection, only very large devices using screw compressors above 60 kW are suitable.

10. IS THE POLARJET EQUIPMENT FOR RENT?

Yes, you can rent various polarjet devices. However, our devices can only be operated if a suitable screw compressor with refrigeration dryer is available on-site:

  • polarjet 1600/2000, above 7.5 kW compressor performance
  • polarjet 1600 plus/4000, above 15 kW compressor performance
  • polarjet 6000, above 30 kW compressor performance
